The Full Monteverdi

At the annual Royal Philharmonic Society Awards at the Dorchester Hotel, I Fagiolini won the Ensemble Award. The awards are given in recognition of ‘live musical excellence’, the three criteria for recognition being ‘creativity, excellence and understanding’. The award has only once before gone to a vocal ensemble and never to an ensemble specialising in early music.

The citation read:
“I Fagiolini is a group of musical actors who, under their energetic director Robert Hollingworth, have created an imaginative approach to presenting often unfamiliar music…their performances are always informed while communicating the spirit of the music instantly and vividly.”
